Montreux Jazz Festival 08

Montreux Jazz Fondation 2

Foundation 2’s cultural commitment to creation and cultural exchange, which is composed of competitions, exhibitions, archive screening and workshops, proved to be very attractive to Festival goers. The competition finales and workshops welcomed a full house. Giving open access to the public and ensuring that most of the events were free of charge made Foundation 2 a success in spreading musical knowledge and cultural exchange. Workshops enabled the meetings and dialogue with musicians. This year the musical theme took a scientific and theoretic didactical approach, whilst inauguring collaborations with CHUV, the EPFL, the UNIL and the Kunsthaus Zurich. There were also unusual aspects that took place such as the global premiere of the synchronised musical robots directed by the choreographer, musician and scientist Siegen Ono. The competitions allowed young talents to show their skills and take a first step into their musical career.
